Authorities in Marquette are continuing an intensive search for Trenton Massey, a 21-year-old student of Northern Michigan University, who has been missing since last week. Police, volunteers and multiple agencies are working together as concern grows among family and community members.
Officials say Massey was last seen in the early hours of February 22. Investigators are now concentrating their efforts around the city’s lower harbor area after reviewing surveillance footage and other evidence.
According to the Marquette Police Department, Massey was last spotted around 3 am walking east on a bike path near the 7th Street Bridge. Surveillance video reportedly shows him appearing disoriented and having difficulty walking.
Authorities believe he may have been trying to return home when he disappeared. At the time, he was wearing a black and olive green coat. Search teams have focused heavily on the Founders Landing boardwalk area, which is considered his last known location.

The search operation has grown in scale over the past several days. Police are now concentrating on the icy waters of the lower harbor near Founders Landing, where investigators are checking for openings in the ice that could indicate an accidental fall.
Specialised equipment is being used, including helicopters, airboats, underwater vehicles and sonar technology. Officials say changing weather conditions and shifting ice are making the operation more challenging.
Community volunteers have also joined the effort, highlighting the strong local response. Authorities have urged anyone with information about Massey’s whereabouts to contact the Marquette Police Department immediately as the search continues.
