Actor and comedian Vir Das has reacted to the controversy involving Galgotias University and a robotic dog showcased at the India AI Impact Summit in New Delhi. As the issue gained attention on social media, Vir Das chose to respond in his usual humorous style. At the same time, he used the moment to promote the adoption of indie dogs.

The controversy began after a video from the summit went viral online. In the video, a robotic dog was presented at the university’s stall. It was introduced as a product developed by the university’s Centre of Excellence. However, social media users later identified the robot as the Unitree Go2, a commercially available robotic dog made by Chinese company Unitree Robotics.

As the debate grew, Vir Das joined the conversation with witty posts on social media.

Vir Das shares humorous posts

Vir Das, known for his sharp satire and clever observations, posted a picture of a real dog and used the opportunity to encourage people to adopt indie dogs. In his post, he wrote that indie dogs are wonderful and joked that his dog was not made by Galgotias University.

In another post on X, he made a philosophical and humorous comment. He wrote that nothing is truly original when one thinks deeply about it, and joked that humans themselves are creations interacting and forming new versions, all “made by the great Galgotia University in the sky.”

His posts quickly gained attention online. Many people appreciated his light-hearted approach to the controversy. Instead of directly criticizing anyone, he used humour to comment on the situation and shift focus toward animal adoption.

Vir Das has often used trending topics as a base for satire. This time too, he turned a heated debate into a moment of laughter while promoting a positive message. By encouraging the adoption of indie dogs, he highlighted an important issue. Many animal welfare groups in India promote adopting local street dogs instead of buying expensive breeds.

On the professional front, Vir Das was last seen in the film “Happy Patel: Khatarnaak Jasoos,” produced by Aamir Khan Productions. He continues to remain active in stand-up comedy and films.

What sparked the robot dog controversy

The controversy started at the India AI Impact Summit held in New Delhi. Galgotias University had set up a stall at the expo area. During the event, a robotic dog was displayed under the name “Orion.” In videos that later went viral, representatives at the stall described the robot and said it was developed by the university’s Centre of Excellence.

However, viewers online quickly pointed out that the robot looked like the Unitree Go2. This model is manufactured by Unitree Robotics, a Chinese robotics company. The robot is available commercially in India and costs between Rs 2 lakh and Rs 3 lakh.

As the videos spread, many social media users accused the university of presenting an imported product as its own innovation. The criticism grew rapidly, and reports said that the university was asked to vacate its stall at the summit.

After the backlash, Professor Neha Singh, who had presented the robot at the event, responded to the controversy. She said that the issue happened because things may not have been expressed clearly. She took responsibility for the way the information was communicated.

Professor Singh clarified that the university never claimed to have manufactured the robot. She explained that the robotic dog was introduced to students to inspire them to create something better in the future. According to her, the university aims to provide students with exposure to advanced technologies so they can learn and innovate.

She also said that her presentation was done with a lot of enthusiasm and energy, which may have led to confusion. She accepted that she might not have communicated the details clearly enough.

The incident has sparked discussions online about transparency in academic institutions and the importance of clearly stating whether a product is developed in-house or sourced from outside.

While the controversy continues to be discussed, Vir Das’s humorous take has added a lighter angle to the debate. His posts remind people that sometimes humour can help reduce tension and redirect attention toward meaningful causes.

In this case, he used the moment to talk about adopting indie dogs, turning a technology controversy into a conversation about compassion and responsible choices.

As social media continues to react, the episode highlights how quickly information spreads online and how public figures often respond in their own unique ways.
