The law and order situation in Ludhiana, Punjab, has come under sharp criticism from Rajneesh Dhiman, the district president of the BJP. Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Dhiman said that the state’s security system has “collapsed completely” and that ordinary citizens no longer feel safe. He warned that the rising incidents of murders, firing, and extortion calls are creating widespread fear among residents.
Dhiman said that in the past, criminals operated in secret, but now they are openly attacking people. “In Punjab, sportspersons, politicians, and businessmen are being targeted. Extortion calls are increasing, and the mafia appears to be ruling without fear,” he alleged. According to him, criminals have lost their fear of law enforcement, and the state government is failing to provide adequate protection to citizens.
He referred to the recent wave of crimes, highlighting that four murders have taken place in the past four days alone. In addition, a garment trader’s shop in Ludhiana was reportedly fired upon recently, adding to the sense of insecurity among the public. Dhiman expressed concern that the government’s inaction is allowing organised crime to grow unchecked.
Dhiman said that ordinary people are living in constant fear, unsure of their safety in their own neighbourhoods. He stated that the increasing brazen attacks are a sign that criminals are gaining confidence and that the authorities are not responding effectively. “The state government must take strict measures to control organised crime and ensure the safety of citizens,” he added.
During the press interaction, Dhiman stressed that the government must act decisively to curb the growing influence of mafia gangs in Punjab. He noted that criminal networks are becoming more organised and violent, targeting both public figures and common citizens. According to him, immediate action is necessary to restore law and order in Ludhiana and the surrounding areas.
Dhiman also pointed out that the police need stronger support to tackle organised crime effectively. He warned that without urgent intervention, the situation could worsen further, with more innocent people at risk. Extortion calls, shootings, and murders, he said, are not isolated incidents but part of a larger pattern of criminal activity that requires a coordinated response from law enforcement agencies.
He further said that the state government must ensure that the police act promptly and efficiently. “The government cannot allow criminals to operate with impunity. They must take strict action to dismantle the gangs and bring offenders to justice,” he said. Dhiman also urged the authorities to increase surveillance in sensitive areas and protect business owners and citizens from threats posed by gangsters.
Several BJP leaders joined Dhiman during the press briefing, including district general secretary Yashpal Janotra, district press secretary Dr. Satish Kumar, office secretary Parveen Sharma, spokesperson Surinder Kaushal, and party members Saurabh Kapoor, Ravi Chaurasia, and Mahajan. The leaders collectively stressed that public safety should be a top priority and that the government must act immediately to prevent further incidents.
Dhiman said that the citizens of Punjab deserve to feel safe in their homes, workplaces, and streets. He emphasised that crime should not be allowed to spread unchecked, and the government must take a proactive stance to protect residents from violence and extortion. According to him, failure to act decisively may embolden criminals further and lead to a breakdown of law and order across the state.
The BJP leaders also called for a review of the existing security measures in Ludhiana and other major cities in Punjab. They suggested that a stronger police presence, combined with intelligence-led operations, could help in controlling organised crime and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
Dhiman concluded by urging the state government to act promptly, saying that the citizens’ safety should never be compromised. He warned that if the government continues to delay, lawlessness and fear will continue to dominate the streets, and the public’s confidence in the administration will further erode.
