The Punjab Police have stepped up security measures for the three-day annual Shaheedi Sabha at Gurdwara Sri Fatehgarh Sahib in Fatehgarh Sahib, Punjab. The event honours the martyrdom of Guru Gobind Singh’s younger sons, Baba Zorawar Singh and Baba Fateh Singh, along with their grandmother, Mata Gujri. The Shaheedi Sabha, which draws thousands of devotees from across India and abroad, began on Thursday.

Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav personally reviewed the security and traffic management plans to ensure the smooth and safe conduct of the religious congregation. He was accompanied by Deputy Inspector General Nanak Singh and Fatehgarh Sahib Senior Superintendent of Police Shubham Aggarwal.

“The safety, comfort, and smooth movement of the ‘sangat’ are our top priorities,” DGP Yadav said. “Punjab Police is performing this responsibility as sewa and will guide and facilitate devotees with humility and dedication.”

Security measures and crowd management

The DGP said the entire area around the gurdwara had been divided into six sectors, with over 3,400 police personnel deployed under the supervision of six superintendent-rank officers and 24 deputy SP-rank officers. The officers have been instructed to remain vigilant while maintaining a courteous, people-friendly approach during their duty.

To prevent inconvenience for pilgrims, several initiatives have been implemented. A ‘no vehicle’ zone has been established within a 200-meter radius of the gurdwara, and 22 parking locations have been designated for devotees arriving from different parts of the country and abroad. Shuttle services including e-rickshaws, auto-rickshaws, and buses have been arranged to transport devotees from parking areas to the gurdwara.

For smooth traffic management, Punjab Police has collaborated with Google for real-time geo-tagging of parking locations, while directional signboards have been placed at strategic points. Additionally, six drones and around 300 high-tech CCTV cameras have been deployed to monitor crowd movement, traffic flow, and parking areas. The security forces will also keep a close watch on anti-social elements to ensure no untoward incidents occur.

Integrated facilities for devotees

To assist devotees, six integrated help desks have been set up providing police assistance, medical aid, and fire services. An integrated control room has been activated to monitor all activities, and public assistance kiosks have been installed at key locations. Special contingency response teams are on standby to handle emergencies.

The Punjab Police are also monitoring social media and gathering intelligence inputs through the special branch to detect and prevent any potential threats. The DGP emphasised that all these measures have been undertaken to ensure that devotees can participate in the Shaheedi Sabha peacefully and safely.

DGP Yadav highlighted that the Fatehgarh Sahib police have worked extensively this year to provide a hassle-free experience for pilgrims. From traffic management to security deployment, every step has been carefully planned to maintain order during the event. The use of advanced technology such as drones, CCTV, and geo-tagging has strengthened the police’s ability to monitor the area effectively.

The annual Shaheedi Sabha is a significant religious event for Sikhs, commemorating the sacrifices of Guru Gobind Singh’s family. Thousands of devotees visit the gurdwara during the three-day event to pay homage, participate in prayers, and attend cultural and spiritual programs. The congregation also provides an opportunity for the Sikh community to come together and celebrate their heritage.

By deploying a large number of officers and integrating modern surveillance and monitoring tools, Punjab Police aims to ensure that devotees can attend the Shaheedi Sabha without any safety concerns or inconvenience. The combination of strategic planning, crowd management, and public-friendly policing reflects the state’s commitment to the security and comfort of all participants.

Overall, the preparations undertaken by Punjab Police for the Shaheedi Sabha at Fatehgarh Sahib demonstrate a comprehensive approach to managing large religious gatherings. With strict security measures, advanced technology, and dedicated personnel, the police are working to ensure that the event proceeds smoothly, safely, and respectfully for all devotees.
