Robert Vadra, husband of Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, has said that many people would like to see her become the Prime Minister of India one day. He added that this will happen in time and is unavoidable. His statement came at a time when the Congress party is facing internal discussions about leadership after repeated election defeats.
Speaking to reporters, Vadra said Priyanka Gandhi has a strong future in Indian politics. According to him, she understands the problems faced by common people and believes in taking public opinion before making decisions. He said leadership should not be based on personal ideas alone but should reflect the wishes and needs of the people.
Vadra said that Priyanka speaks from the heart and raises issues that truly matter to citizens. He added that when she speaks in public, people listen because she talks about real concerns. He believes that her political journey will grow naturally over time and that leadership roles will come to her with public support.
His remarks came amid claims by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) that the Congress party has lost confidence in Rahul Gandhi. The BJP has often accused Congress leaders of being divided and unsure about their leadership direction.
Robert Vadra was responding to recent comments made by Congress MP Imran Masood, who reportedly said that Priyanka Gandhi could prove to be a strong Prime Minister like her grandmother Indira Gandhi. Masood had made these remarks while discussing the situation in Bangladesh, where reports suggest that Hindu minorities are facing difficulties.
Masood said that Priyanka Gandhi would be capable of taking strong decisions in such situations, similar to the leadership shown by Indira Gandhi in the past. His comments added fuel to ongoing discussions within the Congress party about giving Priyanka Gandhi a larger role in national politics.
Reacting to Masood’s remarks, Vadra said that Priyanka has learned a lot from her family. He mentioned her grandmother Indira Gandhi, her father Rajiv Gandhi, her mother Sonia Gandhi, and her brother Rahul Gandhi as major influences in her life. According to Vadra, being part of such a political family has helped Priyanka understand governance, leadership, and public service deeply.
He said people admire Priyanka Gandhi because of her honesty and emotional connection with the public. Vadra explained that she does not speak just for politics but raises issues that people want to hear about. He said her debating style and clarity make her a strong voice in Indian politics.

Over the years, several Congress supporters and leaders have demanded that Priyanka Gandhi should be given a bigger political role, especially after the party’s poor performance in multiple elections. Many believe she has strong public appeal and communication skills that could help revive the party.
Meanwhile, the BJP has strongly reacted to these developments. BJP spokesperson Shehzaad Poonawalla claimed that Congress leaders themselves are losing faith in Rahul Gandhi. He said recent statements from Congress members show internal disagreement and confusion.
Poonawalla referred to Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, who recently praised development work done by the NDA government in Bihar. According to the BJP, this contradicted Rahul Gandhi’s claims about alleged election issues and weakened his political narrative.
The BJP spokesperson further said that Imran Masood’s comments and Robert Vadra’s support for Priyanka Gandhi clearly show that Congress leaders are looking for an alternative to Rahul Gandhi. He claimed that these statements suggest growing dissatisfaction within the party’s ranks.
Despite these political attacks, Congress leaders have not officially announced any leadership change or new role for Priyanka Gandhi. However, the repeated discussions indicate that internal debate within the party is far from over.
For now, Priyanka Gandhi continues to play an active role in campaigning and party organisation, while Rahul Gandhi remains the party’s central national figure. Whether Priyanka will take on a larger leadership role in the future remains uncertain, but statements like those from Robert Vadra have once again brought the topic into public focus.
As Indian politics continues to evolve, the Congress party faces pressure to rebuild trust among voters and present strong leadership. Whether that leadership comes from Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, or a collective effort remains a key question for the party’s future.
