Haryana chief minister Nayab Singh Saini on Sunday encouraged young people to become job creators instead of job seekers, saying that the future of India depends on local skills supported by modern technology. Speaking at the Swadeshi Mahotsav-2025 in Panchkula, the chief minister said the state government is working to strengthen local manufacturing and make Haryana’s traditional products globally competitive.

Saini said the idea of swadeshi has changed with time. While it earlier focused mainly on traditional goods, today it also includes modern sectors such as technology, software, defence manufacturing, and semiconductors. He added that combining traditional skills with new technology will help Haryana grow economically and create large-scale employment.

Focus on local products and Brand India

Addressing the gathering, the chief minister said Haryana aims to promote the unique products of each block as part of the “Brand India” initiative. He said items such as scientific instruments from Ambala, handloom products from Panipat, and brass craft from Rewari should be recognised not only across India but also in international markets.

To achieve this goal, the state government has launched the “Padma” scheme, which focuses on identifying, recognising, and promoting the distinctive products made in different blocks of Haryana. Under this scheme, local artisans, small manufacturers, and entrepreneurs will receive support to improve product quality, branding, and market access.

Saini said that Haryana’s products must meet global quality standards so that they can compete in international markets. He added that improving design, packaging, and technology is essential for increasing exports and boosting local income.

The chief minister said swadeshi should not be seen as something limited to the past. Instead, it should be viewed as a modern idea that supports self-reliance, innovation, and sustainable growth. He added that strong local industries can reduce dependence on imports and make the economy more resilient.

He also highlighted the role of self-help groups, especially women-led groups, in promoting local production. According to him, more than 65,000 self-help groups have been empowered in Haryana, with millions of women actively contributing to economic activities across the state.

Support for youth entrepreneurship and startups

Saini said the Haryana government is fully committed to encouraging youth entrepreneurship. He urged young people to use government schemes and financial support to start their own businesses rather than waiting for government or private jobs.

He highlighted several schemes aimed at supporting entrepreneurs, including the Mudra scheme, Stand-Up India, and special subsidies for the MSME sector. These initiatives provide easy loans, financial assistance, and policy support to small and medium enterprises.

The chief minister said Haryana currently has over 12 lakh registered MSMEs, which together provide employment to around 65,000 people. He added that strengthening the MSME sector is key to economic growth and job creation in both urban and rural areas.

Saini also pointed out that Haryana is doing well in the startup ecosystem. The state currently ranks seventh in India in terms of the number of startups, with more than 9,500 recognised startups operating across various sectors. These startups are working in areas such as agriculture technology, manufacturing, digital services, and clean energy.

He said that youth-led innovation in swadeshi technology will help India emerge as a global leader. According to him, young entrepreneurs have the creativity and energy needed to build new businesses that can compete at the international level.

The chief minister also referred to the historical importance of swadeshi during India’s freedom movement. He said Mahatma Gandhi used the concept of swadeshi to promote self-reliance and reduce dependence on foreign goods. Today, he said, the same spirit is being carried forward under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with the vision of building a self-reliant India.

Saini concluded by saying that swadeshi is not just an economic idea but a national movement. By supporting local products, encouraging entrepreneurship, and adopting modern technology, Haryana aims to contribute strongly to India’s growth story.

He said the state government will continue to support youth, artisans, startups, and small businesses so that Haryana becomes a leading example of self-reliant and inclusive development.
