The International Day of Persons with Disabilities was celebrated with great enthusiasm by the Rehabilitation Centre for Special Children (RCSC)-Prayaas, a unit of the Chandigarh Child & Women Development Corporation Limited, at Bal Bhawan, Sector 23-B, Chandigarh, on 03.12.2025. The global theme for this year, “Fostering Disability-Inclusive Societies for Advancing Social Progress,” emphasizes the need to build societies that are inclusive, equitable, and supportive for Persons with Disabilities.

The event radiated creativity and joy, featuring drawing and painting activities, fancy dress presentations, and solo and group dance performances by the talented children with special needs from Prayaas. Their vibrant performances highlighted their abilities, confidence, and artistic expression.

The function was graced by Ms. Anuradha S. Chagti, CSS, Secretary Social Welfare, Chandigarh Administration, as the Chief Guest. In her address, she acknowledged the remarkable contributions, achievements, and resilience of individuals with disabilities. She highlighted the challenges they face, the barriers they overcome, and the significant milestones they achieve. She further emphasized that parents of special children are their first advocates—unsung heroes who tirelessly create opportunities for their children to learn, grow, and pursue their dreams.

Ms. Anita Midha, along with other members of the Mahila Yoga Group, Sector 21, Chandigarh, distributed refreshments to the children, adding warmth and encouragement to the celebration.

RCSC-Prayaas remains committed to providing specialized services such as Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, and Special Education. These services aim to support the holistic development of children with special needs, enhance their quality of life, and help them move towards greater independence. Parents present at the event expressed their appreciation for the consistent efforts, dedication, and compassion shown by the staff of RCSC-Prayaas.
