ESIC Karnal Prepares an Action Plan for Awareness on Labour Codes
Karnal, 24 November: The Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC), Sub-Regional Office Karnal, has warmly welcomed the historic announcement made by the Ministry of Labour and Employment to implement the four Labour Codes—Wage Code, Industrial Relations Code, Social Security Code, and Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code—from 21 November 2025. This landmark step will usher in a new era of improved wages, safety, social security, and welfare for the country’s workforce.
A meeting was held under the chairmanship of Joint Director (In-Charge) Shri Hari Om Prakash, in the presence of officers and Social Security Officers, during which an extensive action plan was drafted to spread awareness about the implementation of the Labour Codes. The meeting emphasized that these Codes will lead to an unprecedented expansion of ESIC coverage.
With the implementation of the Social Security Code, 2020, several significant benefits will be extended to workers in Haryana. Gig and platform workers will now be brought under the ambit of social security coverage. Employers will be required to provide annual free health check-ups for all employees above 40 years of age. ESIC coverage has been expanded nationwide—while establishments with fewer than 10 employees may opt for voluntary coverage, it will be mandatory for establishments engaged in hazardous activities even if they employ just one worker.
Contract workers will also receive health and social security benefits, including annual free health check-ups. Plantation and mine workers will be covered under the Social Security Code and the OSH & Working Conditions Code, 2020, ensuring complete ESIC medical facilities and annual free health examinations for them and their families.
Highlighting the key reforms, Shri Hari Om Prakash stated that these Codes ensure social justice and bring Haryana’s labour ecosystem in line with global standards. Women will be permitted to work in all establishments, including night shifts, with their consent and proper safety measures. This will open up avenues for higher-paying employment opportunities. The Codes also ensure equal wages for equal work and prohibit gender-based discrimination.
He further noted that issuing appointment letters to all workers will be mandatory, ensuring transparency, formalization, and guaranteed employment through written proof. Employers will also be required to ensure timely payment of minimum wages.
The Sub-Regional Office, Karnal has urged all employers and workers under ESIC to familiarize themselves with the new provisions and ensure compliance so that the extended social security and health benefits can be fully availed.
