A fire broke out in a two-storey building near gate number 31 of Rashtrapati Bhavan on Tuesday afternoon, causing alarm but no injuries. Delhi Fire Services (DFS) officials said the fire started from domestic articles on the ground floor of the building and was quickly brought under control.
According to DFS, the emergency call reporting the fire was received at 1:51 pm. Five fire tenders were immediately dispatched to the site, and the fire was completely controlled by 2:15 pm, just 24 minutes after the first call. Officials confirmed that no casualties or injuries were reported in the incident.
The fire occurred in Flat No. 19 of Narmada Apartments near Gate No. 31 of Rashtrapati Bhavan. DFS officials described it as a minor fire, originating from household items on the ground floor. Quick action by firefighters ensured that the blaze did not spread to other flats or nearby buildings.
Local authorities and security personnel near Rashtrapati Bhavan assisted in maintaining order while the fire was being controlled. Residents of the building were evacuated as a precaution, though none were harmed.
Officials stressed that the quick response of fire tenders and emergency teams was crucial in preventing a major incident. “We rushed five fire tenders to the spot. The fire was brought under control by 2:15 pm,” a DFS official said.
This is not the first fire incident in Delhi during the festival season. Earlier on Diwali night, a four-storey residential building in west Delhi’s Mohan Garden caught fire. Authorities received a PCR call at 9:49 pm regarding a fire in a dwelling house.
Seven people from three families were rescued safely from the building. Four of them were saved using ropes with help from local police and nearby residents before the fire brigade arrived. The remaining three people were rescued by fire brigade personnel.
Those rescued included Harvinder Singh (34), his wife Priya (27), Virender Singh (32), his wife Premvadha, Rakhi Kumari (40), and her children Vaishnavi Sinha (15) and Krishna Sinha (10). All escaped the incident unhurt.

Officials emphasized the importance of quick reporting and coordinated response in minimizing damage and avoiding injuries. The Rashtrapati Bhavan fire demonstrates the efficiency of Delhi Fire Services and local emergency protocols.
Authorities advised residents to remain vigilant, especially during festival seasons, when the use of firecrackers and other flammable materials increases the risk of fire. They urged households to maintain fire safety equipment and report any fire incidents immediately.
With prompt action and coordinated rescue efforts, both the Rashtrapati Bhavan and Mohan Garden incidents were handled efficiently. The quick control of the fire near Rashtrapati Bhavan prevented a potential disaster in a sensitive and high-security area.
The authorities are reviewing safety measures to prevent such incidents in the future. Awareness campaigns and safety drills are likely to be conducted in residential areas, particularly near important government buildings.
Residents are encouraged to follow fire safety guidelines, such as keeping fire extinguishers and hoses ready, avoiding overloading electrical circuits, and handling flammable items carefully. Coordination with local fire services can further reduce risks during emergencies.
In conclusion, the quick response by Delhi Fire Services prevented injuries and controlled the fire near Rashtrapati Bhavan. Alongside earlier incidents in Delhi, it highlights the need for constant vigilance, especially during festival seasons when fire-related accidents are more common.
