The National Testing Agency (NTA) is set to begin the registration process for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2026 soon. According to official updates, the online application link for the January session will be activated on the official website — jeemain.nta.nic.in. The exam will be held between January 21 and 30, 2026, while the April session will take place from April 1 to 10, 2026.
This exam is one of the most important entrance tests for engineering aspirants in India, opening the doors to top institutes such as the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs), and other centrally funded technical institutions.
Candidates who wish to appear for JEE Main 2026 must fill out the online application form on the NTA’s official website once the registration window opens. The application link will soon be available on jeemain.nta.nic.in.
Here are the steps to apply for the JEE Main 2026 January session:
Visit the official website — jeemain.nta.nic.in
Click on the “JEE Main 2026 Registration” link available on the homepage.
Fill in the required details in the application form such as personal information, educational qualifications, and exam preferences.
Upload the necessary documents including scanned photographs, signatures, and certificates.
Pay the application fee online using a credit/debit card, net banking, or UPI.
Review the filled details carefully before submission.
Submit the form and download the confirmation page.
Take a printout of the final application form for future reference.
The NTA has advised candidates to double-check all details before submitting the form, as errors in personal information or uploaded documents may lead to rejection or later complications during admit card issuance or result declaration.
Applicants must have specific documents ready in the required format before beginning the registration. The list of mandatory documents includes:
Recent passport-size photograph: The photograph should be in color, showing 80% of the candidate’s face clearly (without a mask) against a white background. It must be between 10 KB and 300 KB in JPG/JPEG format.
Candidate’s signature: The signature should be clearly visible, between 10 KB and 50 KB in JPG/JPEG format.
Class X or equivalent marksheet/certificate: This document should be uploaded in PDF format between 10 KB and 300 KB.
PwD or PwBD certificate (if applicable): Candidates seeking reservation under the Persons with Disability category must upload the certificate in PDF format between 10 KB and 300 KB.
The NTA has emphasized that all uploaded documents should be clear, properly named, and easily legible. Any blurred or invalid documents may lead to form rejection.
To be eligible for JEE Main 2026, candidates must have passed or be appearing in the final examination of the 10+2 system conducted by any recognized central or state board. The acceptable qualifications include:
The final exam of the 10+2 system by CBSE, CISCE, or any recognized state board.
Intermediate or two-year Pre-University examination conducted by a recognized board or university.
Final examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy.
Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) with at least five subjects.
Any public school, board, or university examination in India or abroad recognized as equivalent to the 10+2 system by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
Higher Secondary Certificate Vocational Examination.
A diploma course recognized by AICTE or a state board of technical education of at least three years’ duration.
Candidates must also meet the age and attempt limits as prescribed by NTA for appearing in the JEE Main exam.
According to the official schedule, JEE Main 2026 will be conducted in two sessions — January and April.
The January session will be held from January 21 to 30, 2026.
The April session will be conducted from April 1 to 10, 2026.
The registration for the January session will open soon in October 2025, while the application window for the April session will begin in the last week of January 2026. Candidates can choose to appear in either one or both sessions. The best of the two scores will be considered for admission and ranking purposes.
The JEE Main is conducted in computer-based test (CBT) mode and serves as the qualifying exam for JEE Advanced, which is required for admission to IITs.
Once the application process is complete, NTA will issue admit cards for registered candidates a few weeks before the examination date. The admit card will include details such as the candidate’s name, exam center, roll number, and reporting time. Candidates must carry a printed copy of the admit card and a valid photo ID to the exam center.
After the exam, provisional answer keys will be released for candidates to review and raise objections, if any. The final results will be declared along with percentile scores and the All India Rank.
