Ayodhya is set to welcome a unique addition to its rich spiritual and cultural legacy with the opening of the world’s first Ramayana-themed wax museum. The museum will be inaugurated by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath during the ninth edition of Deepotsav 2025. Built as a blend of art, devotion, and technology, the museum promises visitors an immersive experience into the sacred era of the Treta Yuga.
Spread over 9,850 square feet, the museum has been constructed at a cost of Rs 6 crore. Located on the Chaudah Kosi Parikrama route, opposite Kashiram Colony, the two-story building follows a South Indian architectural style. It houses 50 life-size wax statues of characters from the Ramayana, including Lord Ram, Mata Sita, Lakshman, Hanuman, and Ravana. Each statue has been crafted with careful attention to detail, from facial expressions to attire, bringing the epic’s most important scenes to life.
The ground floor features moments such as Ram Lalla’s childhood and Sita’s swayamvar, while the upper floor depicts dramatic scenes like Lanka Dahan and the Ram-Ravana war. Visitors will be allowed inside in batches of 100 to ensure a calm and immersive atmosphere. The museum aims to recreate the divine ambience of the Treta Yuga, giving guests a sense of walking through the legendary period of Lord Ram.
Inside the museum, soft chants of the “Ram Tarak Mantra” and devotional bhajans play continuously. A subtle fragrance reminiscent of the sacred era fills the air. At the entrance, a grand wax idol of Lord Ganesha welcomes visitors, symbolizing auspicious beginnings. A special selfie point near the statue of child Ram allows visitors, especially children, to take memorable photographs with the divine figures.
The museum is fully air-conditioned, keeping the temperature steady at 22°C to preserve the wax statues. Safety has been given high priority, with round-the-clock CCTV monitoring, 24x7 security personnel, and a fire safety system connected to four emergency exits. Entry to the museum is priced at Rs 100, which is intended to make the attraction accessible while supporting its maintenance.
Sunil Wax Museum, a Kerala-based company known for similar projects in Lonavala and Thiruvananthapuram, built the museum. The company’s head, Sunil, explained that the project is unlike anything they have previously created. Visitors will feel as though they have stepped directly into the world of the Ramayana, combining historical storytelling with modern display techniques.
The museum is expected to boost tourism in Ayodhya, which has already seen a surge in visitors following the opening of the Ram Temple. Municipal Commissioner Jayendra Kumar stated that 12 per cent of the museum’s revenue will be contributed to city development projects. This initiative reflects a blend of cultural promotion and civic benefit.
Plans are also underway to enhance facilities around the museum. Visitors can look forward to parking spaces, a studio coffee house, snack kiosks, and an entertainment zone. These developments aim to provide a complete cultural and recreational experience for families and tourists, reflecting Ayodhya’s harmonious blend of North and South Indian traditions.
