In Ludhiana, a driver allegedly fled with ₹35.30 lakh in cash that belonged to his employer’s friend and abandoned the car near Arora Palace on Gill Road. Police suspect that the accused has escaped Punjab to avoid arrest. He has been identified as Nishant Mundra, a resident of Ram Nagar, Chandigarh Road. Multiple police teams are actively working to trace him and recover the stolen money.
The case came to light after Inderjit Singh, a realtor from Nanak Nagar, filed a complaint. Singh said that his friend Mohinder Pal, also a realtor, had received ₹35.30 lakh as part of a property deal. Pal was supposed to deliver this money to another associate, Sanjiv Kumar, who lives in Model Town.
Inderjit Singh told police that he asked his driver, Nishant Mundra, to drop Mohinder Pal at Sanjiv Kumar’s residence. The driver reached Model Town Extension and dropped Pal outside the house. According to the complaint, the driver then said he was going to make a U-turn but never returned.
When Mohinder Pal called the driver, his phone was found switched off. Pal immediately informed Singh, who then alerted the Model Town police. During investigation, the police found the car abandoned near Arora Palace on Gill Road. However, the ₹35.30 lakh cash was missing.
Sub-inspector Dharampal, who is investigating the case, said, “Our preliminary inquiry suggests that the accused fled with the money intentionally. We suspect he has escaped to Rishikesh. Efforts are on to trace and arrest him.”
The police have registered a case under Section 306 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with theft committed by a servant or employee from an employer’s possession. Nishant Mundra had been working with Inderjit Singh for the past year.
Multiple police teams have been formed to track the accused. They are checking CCTV footage from nearby areas, questioning witnesses, and monitoring possible escape routes out of Punjab. The police are also coordinating with authorities in neighbouring states in case the accused has crossed state borders.
