The Himachal Pradesh police have arrested Ram Kumar Bindal, brother of state BJP chief Dr. Rajeev Bindal, for allegedly molesting and sexually assaulting a woman who had gone to him for Ayurvedic treatment in Solan. The arrest was made on Friday, and the accused was later taken for a medical examination before being admitted to a hospital due to health complaints. Police said a detailed investigation is in progress.

Woman alleges assault during Ayurvedic treatment visit

According to Solan Superintendent of Police (SP) Gaurav Singh, the case was registered at the Women Police Station in Solan on October 8 after a complaint was lodged by the woman. In her statement, the complainant said she had been suffering from a long-term illness and had not found relief through regular medical treatment. Hoping for an alternative cure, she visited a clinic near the old bus stand in Solan on October 7 to seek Ayurvedic treatment.

At the clinic, she met a man who introduced himself as a vaidya (traditional healer). The woman later identified him as Ram Kumar Bindal. During the session, Bindal allegedly examined her under the pretext of a diagnosis. He reportedly began asking her personal and inappropriate questions about sexual issues, assuring her that he could “completely cure” her condition. He even showed her a book related to such problems to gain her trust, officials said.

However, the woman claimed that during the so-called examination, the accused crossed boundaries and insisted on checking her private parts. When she refused, Bindal allegedly molested and sexually assaulted her. Shocked and frightened, the woman managed to push him away and quickly left the premises.

The next day, she went to the Women Police Station and filed a formal complaint describing the entire incident. The police immediately took up the matter and registered a case under Sections 64 and 68 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deal with offences related to sexual assault.

Police collect evidence and arrest the accused

After receiving the complaint, the Solan police launched a detailed investigation. The woman’s statement was recorded in court under legal procedure to ensure accuracy and protection. A forensic team from the State Forensic Science Laboratory (SFSL) in Junga was called to inspect the scene of the incident. The team collected physical and technical evidence from the location and assisted the local police in the investigation.

According to a Solan District Police spokesperson, investigators carefully analysed all the material collected, including digital and forensic evidence. Based on the findings, witness statements, and the survivor’s account, the police concluded that there was enough evidence to arrest the accused.

On Friday, a police team arrested Ram Kumar Bindal from Solan. “On the basis of the victim’s statement, site inspection, and technical findings, the police arrested the accused. He will be produced before the competent court soon. Further investigation is underway,” the spokesperson said.

After the arrest, Bindal was taken to a government hospital for a routine medical examination, as required by law. However, during the process, he reportedly complained of health issues. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Anil Dhaulta said, “Today, the police team arrested the accused. However, during his medical examination, he experienced some health problems, and we admitted him to the hospital for treatment.”

Police officials added that Bindal remains under custody and will be produced before the court after doctors declare him fit. The investigation team continues to gather additional evidence and statements to build a stronger case.

Political sensitivity and public reaction

The case has drawn public attention because the accused is the brother of Dr. Rajeev Bindal, the Himachal Pradesh BJP chief and a senior leader in the state. While the police have not made any political comments, officials have stressed that the investigation is being conducted strictly according to the law and without any bias.

The authorities have also stated that the identity of the survivor will be protected, and her safety will be ensured throughout the legal process. The Solan police have urged the public not to spread rumours or misinformation about the case while the investigation is ongoing.

Meanwhile, legal experts have said that under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, offences like molestation and sexual assault carry strict punishments, including imprisonment. If convicted, Bindal could face severe legal consequences.

The case has once again raised concerns about the misuse of traditional healing practices by fake practitioners. Women’s rights activists in the state have demanded that local authorities regulate unlicensed Ayurvedic or traditional clinics more strictly to prevent such incidents in the future.

The police have assured that every angle of the case will be thoroughly examined and that justice will be served based on the evidence collected. As the investigation progresses, more details are expected to emerge about how the accused operated and whether similar complaints exist against him.

The Solan SP’s office has confirmed that updates will be shared once the forensic report and digital evidence analysis are completed. For now, the accused remains in custody while the woman is receiving legal and psychological support as part of the ongoing investigation.
