Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath held a comprehensive review meeting through video conferencing to check the law and order situation in the state before Diwali and other upcoming festivals. He directed senior officials, district administrations, and police officers to remain on the ground and ensure public safety during the festive period. The Chief Minister urged all departments to work with full coordination and ensure that people celebrate Diwali peacefully and joyfully.

During the meeting, CM Yogi called for promoting a “Swadeshi Diwali” this year. He said people should buy only locally made and indigenous products to support local artisans, traders, and small businesses. He emphasised that every purchase during the festive season should promote Indian-made goods. To encourage this, he instructed all districts to hold Swadeshi fairs starting from October 10, where local products can be showcased and sold.

The Chief Minister reminded officials that major religious events like Ayodhya’s Deepotsav and Kashi’s Dev Deepawali have now become national symbols. Lakhs of devotees, tourists, and pilgrims from across the country participate in these grand celebrations every year. He said that traffic control, security arrangements, and crowd management must be handled with great care to ensure that these sacred events remain peaceful and well-organized. Any lapse in arrangements would not be acceptable.

Yogi Adityanath also asked officials to take strong action against anyone trying to disturb peace during the celebrations. He announced that a special drive would be launched across the state to maintain law and order during the festival season. He reminded police officers to maintain strict vigilance and ensure safety in every district.

Zero-tolerance policy and strict monitoring

Reiterating his government’s zero-tolerance policy against anti-social elements, the Chief Minister said that such people often try to create disturbances during large gatherings and festivals. He warned that intelligence agencies and local police units must remain alert at all times. The intelligence network should be strengthened to track any suspicious movement or activity. He directed officials to take preventive steps instead of reacting after an incident occurs.

CM Yogi also highlighted the importance of social media monitoring during the festive period. He said that police cyber teams should remain vigilant for any fake or provocative content that could spread communal tension or misinformation. He added that special attention should be given after Friday prayers when large crowds gather. The Chief Minister reiterated that the safety and dignity of women must remain a top priority during the festive season.

On environmental safety, Yogi Adityanath directed officials to ensure that idol immersion on Diwali should take place only in ponds instead of rivers, to preserve river sanctity. He said that authorities must make proper arrangements for immersion and ensure cleanliness after the process. Firecracker shops and godowns must be set up away from residential and crowded areas. All sellers should have proper licenses and fire safety clearances. Fire tenders should be stationed near areas where fireworks are sold to handle emergencies quickly.

He also reminded officials to strictly ban the sale and use of environmentally harmful firecrackers, which cause heavy pollution and pose risks to public health. He said the administration should create awareness among people about celebrating an eco-friendly Diwali with minimal noise and smoke.

Ensuring food quality and smooth celebration

Apart from security and environmental safety, the Chief Minister placed special focus on food safety. He directed the Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA) and district administrations to carry out surprise inspections at sweet shops, dairies, and markets. He said officials must check the quality of milk, khoya, sweets, and other festive food items. He instructed them to act immediately against those selling adulterated or unsafe food but also to ensure that genuine traders are not harassed unnecessarily.

Yogi Adityanath also stressed that cleanliness drives should be launched in towns and cities before Diwali. Streets, markets, and public places should be cleaned, decorated, and well-lit to create a festive atmosphere. He asked officials to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply, proper lighting, and effective waste disposal during the celebrations.

He said that Diwali should not only be a time of celebration but also a reflection of discipline, harmony, and community spirit. Local authorities should take responsibility for maintaining law and order, promoting Swadeshi products, and keeping the environment clean and safe.

The Chief Minister concluded the meeting by urging everyone—officials, police, traders, and citizens—to work together to make Diwali celebrations in Uttar Pradesh peaceful, safe, and eco-friendly. He said the government’s aim is to ensure that every person can celebrate the festival of lights with joy, security, and pride in the spirit of “Swadeshi Diwali.”
