A strange case from Uttar Pradesh’s Sitapur district has caught the attention of the local administration after a man approached authorities with a bizarre complaint. The man, identified as Meraj from Lodhasa village in Mahmudabad tehsil, claimed that his wife transforms into a snake at night and terrifies him. His unusual plea for protection left officials puzzled but prompted a police investigation.
Meraj shared his concerns during a Samadhan Diwas (public grievance redressal day) on October 4, 2025. He told officials that his wife, Nasimun, behaves in a very disturbing manner every night. According to him, she pretends to be a “nagin” (female serpent), hissing and scaring him. He added that her actions have made his life miserable and that he fears for his safety.
The man alleged that his wife is mentally unstable and that her behavior has worsened over time. He said he had repeatedly requested help from the local police, but they ignored his complaints. Feeling helpless, he finally decided to approach the Sitapur District Magistrate directly to seek protection.
When Meraj presented his case before the district authorities, officials were reportedly shocked by the nature of the complaint. While such claims are extremely rare, the District Magistrate treated the issue seriously and instructed the police to look into it. Officials later confirmed that an investigation has been launched to determine the facts behind the man’s allegations.
A police official said, “We have received the complaint, and the matter is under investigation.” Although the claim seems strange, authorities said they will follow the proper legal process to ensure both parties’ safety. They are also expected to look into the wife’s mental condition, as the husband alleged that she is not mentally stable.
The case has sparked curiosity across the district and on social media, where many people have reacted with disbelief and humor. However, local authorities have urged citizens not to mock the situation and to allow the investigation to take its course. Experts suggest that such behavior, if true, may point to psychological distress or a mental health disorder requiring professional treatment rather than ridicule.
The district administration has assured that Meraj’s complaint will be handled sensitively and that both he and his wife will receive proper assistance. Officials might refer the woman for a medical or psychological examination to determine the cause of her behavior.
In another disturbing case highlighting domestic violence, a man in Madhya Pradesh’s Gwalior allegedly chopped off his wife’s nose after accusing her of infidelity. The incident occurred near Hotel Flynn, where a 35-year-old woman, who had been living separately from her husband, was on her way to work at a local dairy in the Tansen Nagar area.
According to reports, the accused confronted his wife near the hotel and began hurling verbal abuses, accusing her of being unfaithful. When she protested, he grabbed her hand and attacked her with a knife, cutting off her nose. Witnesses said the man threatened to kill her before fleeing from the scene. The police later confirmed that the victim was originally from Ramtapura and was living in a rented house in Char Shahar Naka after separating from her husband.

The woman was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors said she was in a state of shock but out of danger. Police have registered a case and are searching for the accused. These two incidents — one bizarre and the other brutal — underline the different types of distress and violence occurring within households. In Sitapur, the case points to possible mental health issues and superstitious beliefs affecting family life, while in Gwalior, the violent attack exposes deep-rooted gender-based aggression.
Officials and mental health experts have repeatedly emphasized the importance of counseling, awareness, and legal support for couples facing conflicts. They stress that emotional instability or suspicion should never lead to violence or unusual behavior. Authorities in both cases have pledged to ensure fair investigations and appropriate action under the law.
