Himachal Pradesh Minister Vikramaditya Singh recently got married to Amreen Sekhon in a beautiful wedding ceremony held in Chandigarh. The Anand Karaj, a traditional Sikh wedding ceremony, took place at a gurdwara in Sector 11 and was attended by close family members and relatives.
Vikramaditya Singh looked regal in a pastel pink sherwani, paired with a bright orange and pink turban. He also carried a traditional kalgi (a decorative plume) and a ceremonial sword, reflecting his royal lineage. Amreen Sekhon wore a heavily embroidered peach-toned lehenga, with golden bridal kalire hanging from her hands, completing her traditional bridal look.
Following the wedding, Singh expressed his gratitude to friends and well-wishers for their blessings. He said, “This marks the beginning of a new chapter in my life,” and thanked everyone for their support. When asked about promises made between the couple, Singh smiled and chose not to elaborate, while Amreen stood beside him with her face partially covered by a traditional ‘ghoonghat’, adding a touch of cultural grace.
Amreen Sekhon comes from a Sikh family and has an impressive academic background. She holds dual Master’s degrees in English and Psychology, a PhD in Psychology, and has also studied at Harvard University. Currently, she is an Assistant Professor at Panjab University. She is the daughter of Sardar Jotinder Singh Sekhon and Opinder Kaur.
This marriage also continues a tradition of the Rampur-Bushahr royal family forming alliances with Sikh families. Vikramaditya’s sister, Aparajita Singh, is married into Punjab’s former Patiala royal family. She is the wife of Angad Singh, the grandson of Captain Amarinder Singh, the former Punjab Chief Minister and titular Maharaja of Patiala.
Aparajita’s wedding in New Delhi was attended by many political and royal elites, including the late Virbhadra Singh and Captain Amarinder Singh. These alliances reflect the longstanding connection between political and royal families in North India, combining heritage, influence, and social ties.
Vikramaditya Singh himself comes from a prominent political family. He is a two-time MLA from Shimla Rural and currently serves as Himachal Pradesh’s Cabinet Minister for Public Works and Urban Development.
