Voting for the Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) elections 2025 is currently in progress. The elections are being held across the university for students from various colleges, departments, and evening and day classes.

The polling for day classes started at 8:30 am and will continue until 1 pm, while the polling for evening classes will run from 3 pm to 7:30 pm. All students are required to carry their valid university ID cards to vote. The DUSU election is considered one of the most closely watched student elections in India, as it attracts attention from national political student groups.

This year, the main contest is among three groups: the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), which is affiliated with the RSS; the National Students' Union of India (NSUI), backed by the Congress party; and the SFI-AISA alliance, representing left-leaning student organizations. These groups are competing for the DUSU President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Joint Secretary positions.

Key contestants and their promises

For the President post, the key candidates are:

NSUI’s presidential candidate, Joslyn Nandita Choudhary, expressed confidence in her party’s success. She highlighted the importance of student safety, better hostel facilities, and women-friendly policies. She said, “I am a woman presidential candidate. We want twelve-day menstrual leave per semester and a safe campus for all students. CCTV cameras should be installed across the university, more male and female security guards should be appointed, and safety vans should be available. Outsiders should not be allowed on campus. Hostels need urgent attention, and I want to work on improving them.”

ABVP’s presidential candidate, Arya Mann, said he is hopeful for a clean sweep. “I am a student of Library Science and contesting as President from ABVP. I am confident we will win all four posts as we work consistently on the ground year after year,” he told PTI.

The Left Alliance candidate, Anjali, is contesting to bring attention to issues such as affordable education, student rights, and fair representation in university committees.

All candidates are required to follow strict election guidelines. They and their supporters must avoid any act of indiscipline or physical violence. Threats or assaults against students, teaching staff, or non-teaching staff are strictly prohibited.

Polling process and guidelines

Students must show their university ID cards to vote. Each polling station has Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) that are properly sealed before and after voting. The name of the institution is written on each EVM, which is then transported under police supervision to the counting center.

Polling hours are strictly maintained:

All students arriving during these hours are allowed to vote. College officials are responsible for smooth voting, and strict rules ensure that no disruptions occur during polling. Security personnel and police escorts are arranged for the transportation of EVMs to the counting centers.

In previous years, these elections have seen intense campaigning by all student groups. Posters, rallies, and social media campaigns are used extensively to reach students across the university.

Election results and history

The results for DUSU 2025 will be announced on Friday, September 19, 2025. Counting of votes will start at 8:30 am. Students and political observers are keenly waiting to see which party will take the lead this year.

In the last year’s DUSU elections, the Congress-backed NSUI had made a comeback after seven years. NSUI won the President and Joint Secretary positions, while ABVP secured the Vice-President and Secretary posts. Rounak Khatri of NSUI defeated ABVP’s Rishabh Chaudhary by more than 1,300 votes in the presidential race. Before 2024, the NSUI had last won the President’s post in 2017 when Rocky Tuseed was elected.

This year, the election is expected to be even more competitive, as all major student organizations are working hard to gain an edge. Students are closely following the campaigns and promises made by candidates, as issues like campus safety, hostels, and student rights remain important.

The DUSU elections are not only about winning positions but also about shaping policies and initiatives that affect thousands of students at Delhi University. The outcome will influence student representation, welfare measures, and the overall governance of campus activities for the next year.
