Shimla: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has closely reviewed the flood situation in the state after heavy rains caused widespread damage. On Saturday, Sukhu conducted an aerial survey of the flood-affected regions in Chamba and Kangra districts. He was scheduled to visit Kullu district on Sunday, but the visit was cancelled due to bad weather. He returned to Shimla by road from Chandigarh, as per the official statement.
After returning to his official residence, Oak Over, Sukhu held detailed discussions with the Chief Secretary about the situation in the flood-hit areas. The Chief Secretary updated him on the current conditions and the ongoing rescue and relief measures. Sukhu directed that all rescue operations and relief efforts should be accelerated to ensure timely support for affected families.
The Chief Minister emphasized that the safety of people remains the top priority for the state government. He said that the government stands firmly with every family affected by the floods and is committed to providing all necessary help. Officials have been asked to monitor the situation continuously and coordinate closely with disaster management teams to prevent further damage and loss of life.
The meteorological department has issued a heavy rainfall alert for the next three days, and several parts of the state are already experiencing torrential rains. Sukhu urged the public to stay alert and exercise caution during this period. He specifically asked residents to avoid going near rivers, streams, and other water bodies, as the risk of flash floods and landslides is high.
The CM also requested people to cooperate with local authorities and disaster management teams in helping those in distress. Relief camps and emergency shelters have been prepared in flood-prone areas to accommodate displaced families. Essential supplies such as food, drinking water, and medical aid are being arranged to support those affected by the ongoing heavy rains.
Sukhu’s message to the public stressed vigilance and adherence to administrative advisories. He highlighted that following these instructions can help save lives and reduce the impact of the floods. Authorities are working around the clock to ensure that all affected areas receive timely assistance.
The aerial survey conducted by Sukhu allowed officials to assess the extent of damage to roads, bridges, and homes in Chamba and Kangra districts. In many areas, landslides and waterlogging have disrupted normal life and blocked key transport routes. Rescue teams have been deployed to assist stranded residents and clear roads to restore connectivity.
The state government has also instructed district officials to monitor river levels continuously. This is crucial to detect any sudden rise in water levels that could pose risks to nearby villages. Early warnings are being issued to communities in vulnerable locations to enable timely evacuation if needed.
Sukhu’s discussions with the Chief Secretary included reviewing the preparedness of emergency services, such as the State Disaster Response Force and local police. Special attention is being given to remote and hilly regions where rescue operations are more challenging. The CM assured that all possible resources will be mobilized to help affected people quickly.
Residents have been urged to avoid unnecessary travel during the heavy rainfall period. Schools and offices in affected areas may remain closed if conditions worsen. Authorities are coordinating with local administrations to provide support and ensure the safety of children, elderly people, and other vulnerable groups.

The Chief Minister has also highlighted the importance of community cooperation. Volunteers and local residents are being encouraged to assist officials in distributing relief materials and helping people reach safe locations. Himachal Pradesh has faced heavy monsoon rains this season, and several districts are experiencing high water levels in rivers and streams. The government has warned that the next few days will be critical, and continuous monitoring is necessary to prevent accidents and manage the flood situation effectively.
Sukhu concluded that the government’s priority is the safety and well-being of its citizens. He reiterated that all officials must work tirelessly to ensure relief reaches every affected family and that preventive measures are in place to minimize risks from ongoing rains.
