The mysterious death of a 19-year-old playschool teacher in Bhiwani has taken a new turn after the Haryana government decided to hand over the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The decision came amid growing protests, outrage in the local community, and strong demands from the victim’s family for an impartial investigation.
The young teacher went missing on August 11 after she left her school, reportedly to inquire about admission to a nursing college. Two days later, on August 13, her body was found near a canal. This discovery shocked her family and villagers, who immediately suspected foul play. The police initially suggested that she may have consumed pesticide, but her family rejected the claim and demanded a thorough probe.
Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini announced on Wednesday that the state would hand over the investigation to the CBI to ensure transparency and justice. He assured the family and the public that the government was treating the case with utmost seriousness. “I am continuously monitoring this case. As per the family’s demand, the state government will hand over this case to the CBI for impartial investigation. Justice will be delivered,” the CM said in a statement on X.
The demand for a fair inquiry grew louder after the first two autopsies — one at Bhiwani Civil Hospital and the other at PGIMS, Rohtak — left many questions unanswered. Villagers and the teacher’s family believed the earlier examinations were not reliable and pressed for a third one at AIIMS, Delhi. On Tuesday, the authorities agreed, and the autopsy was carried out in Delhi on Wednesday.
Three family members accompanied the police team to Delhi for the post-mortem, highlighting their lack of trust in local procedures. The body was later brought back to Bhiwani Civil Hospital on Wednesday night. With the assurance of a CBI probe and the AIIMS autopsy completed, villagers in Dhani Laxman — the teacher’s native village — agreed to end their protest. They had been staging a dharna demanding justice but called it off after government assurances. The last rites are now scheduled for Thursday morning.
Farmer leader Suresh Koth confirmed that the villagers ended their sit-in after the government accepted their demands. Meanwhile, Haryana State Women’s Commission chairperson Renu Bhatia visited the village and assured the locals that the government stood firmly with the victim’s family. She also met local committee members in Dhigawa to discuss their concerns and pledged full support from the state.
The case had sparked major tension in the region. On Tuesday, as public anger grew, authorities suspended mobile internet, bulk SMS, and dongle services in Bhiwani and nearby Charkhi Dadri to prevent the spread of rumors and maintain law and order.

The teacher’s death has caused deep unrest, not only in her village but also across the district. People rejected the early police claim that she had taken her own life by consuming poison. Many villagers argued that she had no reason to take such a step and insisted that she was murdered. The lack of clarity in the initial reports only fueled suspicion and mistrust.
Residents of Dhani Laxman submitted a memorandum to sub-divisional magistrate Manoj Kumar demanding the third autopsy at AIIMS Delhi, which finally took place. This demand, along with the ongoing protests, played a major role in pressuring the state government to involve the CBI.
Julana MLA Vinesh Phogat also met the teacher’s family to express solidarity and support their demand for justice. Political leaders, activists, and community members have been calling for a fair and impartial probe, underlining that only a central agency can ensure unbiased results.
The case now rests with the CBI, which is expected to look into all aspects, including whether the death was suicide, accident, or murder. For the family and villagers, the hope is that the truth will finally emerge and those responsible will be punished.
As the teacher’s last rites are performed, her death remains a painful reminder of how trust in investigations can break down when people suspect negligence or bias. With the case now handed to India’s top investigating agency, the people of Bhiwani are waiting for answers — and above all, justice for the young woman whose life was cut short so suddenly.
