Bollywood actor Rajkummar Rao recently appeared before a court in Jalandhar, Punjab, in a 2017 legal case related to his film Behen Hogi Teri. The issue came from a promotional poster where he was shown dressed as Lord Shiva and sitting on a motorcycle. This image angered some people, who felt that it hurt their religious beliefs.
The case was filed soon after the film’s promotion. People complained that the poster was disrespectful to Hindu sentiments. As a result, a First Information Report (FIR) was filed in Jalandhar under sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act. These included:
Section 295A: This law is used when someone is accused of deliberately hurting religious sentiments.
Section 120B: This involves criminal conspiracy charges.
Section 67 of the IT Act: This law deals with the publishing or sharing of offensive or inappropriate material online.
Due to the seriousness of these charges, non-bailable warrants were also issued against Rajkummar Rao. While the film’s producer and director were arrested in Mumbai back in 2017, they were released on bail. However, Rao had not appeared in court earlier. After several years, he surrendered on July 28, 2025, and requested bail.
Advocate Darshan Dayal, who was involved in the case, said that the charges were quite serious because they related to both religious sentiments and online content. Still, after Rao appeared in court, he was granted conditional bail by the judge. The court considered that he had cooperated and presented himself willingly, which worked in his favor.

Behen Hogi Teri was a romantic comedy released in 2017. It starred Rajkummar Rao and Shruti Haasan in the lead roles and was directed by Ajay Pannalal and Mariam Sadat. The film was well received by audiences for its light-hearted story, but the controversy around its promotional content became a legal headache.
Currently, Rajkummar Rao is working on several new film projects. His most recent appearance was in the crime thriller Maalik. He has also signed a new comedy-drama film titled Toaster, directed by Vivek Daschaudhar. The film stars Archana Puran Singh, Sanya Malhotra, and Abhishek Banerjee, among others. It is expected to be a light-hearted family entertainer.
In his personal life, Rao is also experiencing major changes. In July 2025, he and his wife, actress Patralekhaa, announced that they are expecting their first child. The couple, who got married in 2021 after dating for several years, shared the news with fans on social media. Their announcement was met with love and best wishes from fans and fellow celebrities.
Despite the legal issues, Rajkummar Rao remains a respected name in the Indian film industry. Known for his versatile acting and strong performances, he has built a career that includes films like Newton, Stree, Shahid, and Bareilly Ki Barfi. While the controversy around Behen Hogi Teri was a challenging moment, his legal team hopes that the case will now move toward a resolution.
For now, Rajkummar Rao will continue focusing on his upcoming film and family responsibilities. The next steps in the case will depend on court hearings, but his legal team is confident that he will be able to resolve the matter legally.
