For the first time, the Education Department of Chandigarh has started an official WhatsApp channel to help teachers connect easily with the top officials. This move will allow over 4,500 teachers working in 111 government schools in the Union Territory to directly interact with the senior officers of the department, including the Secretary and the Director.
Until now, many teachers had to physically visit government offices to meet senior officials or get answers to their queries. This took a lot of their time and energy. With the new WhatsApp channel, they can now get quick updates, share feedback, and receive help without leaving their schools.
Prerna Puri, the Education Secretary, said this new WhatsApp channel was created to improve communication, share important updates, and work together on education reforms and digital changes in schools.
“This platform will be used to send official circulars, updates, and training material to teachers. It will also help in sharing regular updates on the School Management Information System (SMIS),” Puri said.
Director of School Education, Harsuhinder Pal Singh Brar, said that this new system will help keep communication transparent and smooth. It will also help school heads, teachers, and cluster coordinators stay connected with senior officials.
Brar added that the WhatsApp channel would promote the use of technology and encourage a system where data is used to manage schools better. “We will celebrate achievements, recognize the hard work of schools, and share success stories through this channel. Teachers and administrators can now be connected with just one click. This will help make decisions faster and in a more open way,” he said.

The Education Department is following a technology-first approach in running schools. It wants to make teachers stronger by training them digitally. It also wants to give students and parents better access to data and use real-time analysis for better planning and school management. This is part of the larger plan under Vidya Samiksha Kendra (VSK), a data-based system designed to improve the quality of education.
“The active involvement of teachers will help us create a strong, clear, and efficient education system in Chandigarh. Let’s move from paper files to meaningful digital progress,” Brar added.
This new WhatsApp channel is expected to make the school administration more modern, transparent, and efficient. Teachers can now stay updated and connected without extra effort, and students and parents will benefit from better school planning and services.
