Iran on Friday claimed that it had destroyed several American military aircraft, including fighter jets and refuelling planes, at a US military facility in Jordan. The claim came after a fresh round of US strikes inside Iran that Tehran says killed dozens of people and injured hundreds more.
According to a statement released by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), ballistic missiles and drones were used in the attack on the US military assets. The IRGC said multiple aircraft were destroyed and several others suffered serious damage. However, the United States has not confirmed the claim, and there has been no independent verification of the reported losses.
The latest developments mark another major escalation in the ongoing conflict between Iran and the United States, despite both countries having signed a peace agreement only last week.
Iran said the attack on American forces in Jordan was carried out in response to overnight US military strikes inside Iranian territory. Tehran alleged that the American operation destroyed a children's cancer hospital in Ahvaz, located in Iran's Khuzestan Province.
In its statement, the IRGC claimed that the missile and drone strikes successfully hit US military targets in Jordan, damaging or destroying several aircraft. The group also called on Jordanians to oppose what it described as American aggression and urged people in the country to target US interests.
So far, the US military has not responded directly to Iran's claims regarding the alleged destruction of aircraft. Without confirmation from Washington or independent sources, the full extent of any damage remains unclear.
Since tensions erupted in the region on February 28, Iran has launched attacks against several American military facilities across the Middle East. Iranian missiles and drones have reportedly targeted US-linked sites in Kuwait, Bahrain and Qatar. Authorities in those countries have acknowledged attacks involving Iranian projectiles and drones.
Iran has also claimed responsibility for strikes on a US military base in Syria. However, neither the US government nor Syrian authorities have publicly confirmed those reports.
The latest exchange highlights how quickly the conflict has expanded across multiple countries in the region, raising concerns about wider instability in the Middle East.

While Iran claims to have struck US military assets, the United States says its recent operations have focused on weakening Iran's military capabilities. According to US officials, the strikes have targeted facilities linked to Iran's missile and drone programmes.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said its forces are continuing military operations against Iranian targets. In a statement posted on social media, CENTCOM said the actions were being carried out under the direction of President Donald Trump and were intended to reduce Iran's military strength and respond to attacks on commercial shipping in the region.
CENTCOM also stressed that more than 50,000 American service members remain deployed across the Middle East and are prepared to respond to any threats.
Meanwhile, Iranian media outlets reported that the latest US strikes have caused significant civilian casualties. According to these reports, at least 38 people have been killed and more than 400 others injured. The figures have not been independently verified.
Iranian authorities also said some power infrastructure was damaged during the attacks. As a result, citizens have been asked to reduce electricity consumption to ease pressure on the national power grid. Officials reportedly advised residents to switch off air conditioners for one hour during periods of high demand to help prevent further strain on electricity supplies.
The conflict has also been accompanied by increasingly strong rhetoric from both sides. Iranian officials issued fresh warnings directed at President Donald Trump, stating that he would not be safe anywhere. Tehran has previously released a list of individuals it says could be targeted in retaliation for attacks on Iran.
The exchange of threats and military strikes has raised fears that the situation could spiral further out of control. Regional governments have expressed concern over the growing violence, particularly as attacks continue to affect several countries across the Middle East.
What makes the latest developments especially significant is that they come only days after the United States and Iran reportedly signed a peace agreement aimed at reducing tensions. At the time, the deal was seen as a possible step toward ending months of confrontation and military exchanges.
However, the continued strikes by both sides suggest that the agreement may no longer be effective. With Iran claiming new attacks on US forces and Washington continuing operations against Iranian targets, hopes for a lasting ceasefire appear increasingly uncertain.
As both countries continue to trade accusations and military actions, the situation remains highly volatile. The lack of independent verification of several claims from both sides also makes it difficult to determine the full scale of the damage and casualties. For now, the conflict shows no clear signs of easing, and concerns about further escalation continue to grow across the region.
