Losing weight is often seen as a sign of better health, but experts say that is not always true. Fitness coach Mohita Mascarenhas has shared seven warning signs that may show your weight loss plan is too extreme and affecting your health.

According to her, a healthy fitness journey should make you feel stronger and more energetic, not weak or unwell.

Signs your body needs more nutrition

One common warning sign is constantly thinking about food. If you feel hungry all the time, keep craving food or are always planning your next meal, your diet may be too restrictive.

Changes in your appearance can also be a sign of poor nutrition. Excessive hair fall, dull skin and loss of skin elasticity may happen when your body is not getting enough vitamins, minerals and healthy fats.

Feeling tired, weak or lacking energy is another red flag. If you struggle to complete daily tasks, feel exhausted during workouts or find it hard to focus, you may not be eating enough calories.

Mood swings and irritability can also occur when the body is under stress from a strict diet. Inadequate nutrition may affect emotional well-being and make it harder to maintain healthy habits.

Effects on digestion and sleep

Poor eating habits during weight loss can also affect digestion. Eating too little, consuming insufficient fibre and not drinking enough water may lead to constipation, acidity and other stomach-related problems.

For women, irregular or missed periods can be a serious warning sign. This may indicate hormonal imbalances caused by inadequate nutrition and should not be ignored.

Sleep problems are another possible effect of unhealthy weight loss. Difficulty sleeping, waking up frequently during the night or feeling tired even after sleeping can suggest that the body is not receiving enough nourishment.

Experts say successful weight loss should improve overall health rather than create new problems. If you notice any of these signs, it may be a good idea to review your diet and focus on a balanced, sustainable approach instead of rapid weight loss.
