Chandigarh/Mohali, 28 June 2026: The Punjab Government, Department of Health & Family Welfare has issued fresh transfer and posting orders for several Senior Medical Officers and 1 other doctor vide order dated 26.06.2026.

Notably, the transfer of the Senior Medical Officer (SMO) of Civil Hospital, Kharar has been ordered following two incidents of Chitta (synthetic drug) consumption inside the hospital washroom within a period of one month. The incidents, reported on 24 May and 26 June 2026, triggered immediate departmental inquiry and subsequent administrative action, leading to the transfer of Dr. Rajesh Kumar.

The move is being seen as a response to growing concerns over security lapses and substance abuse within government healthcare facilities. The Health Department has reiterated its commitment to maintaining strict discipline and a drug-free environment in medical institutions across the state.

This development assumes significance in view of the Punjab Government’s ongoing campaign against drug menace and the need for accountability in public health institutions.
