
Chandigarh, June 24, 2026: In a major success for the protection of Chandigarh’s heritage, the proposed auction of heritage furniture linked to Chandigarh, scheduled to be held in Paris on June 25, 2026, has been stopped following the prompt intervention of the Chandigarh Administration.
Acting on the directions of the Administrator, UT Chandigarh, Sh. Gulab Chand Kataria and with the active intervention of Chief Secretary Shri H Rajesh Prasad the Culture department of Chandigarh administration, immediately took up the matter with the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, seeking urgent diplomatic intervention.
Today the Ministry of External Affairs was informed that, following the intervention of the Embassy of India in France, the concerned items have been withdrawn from the auction.
The Chandigarh Administration has expressed gratitude to the Ministry of External Affairs, the Embassy of India in France and all concerned authorities for their timely support in safeguarding valuable heritage assets. The Administration reiterated its commitment to pursuing all necessary steps for verification, recovery and repatriation of the items.
