Bollywood fans are once again talking about Cocktail, the hit 2012 romantic drama, after the release of Cocktail 2 on June 19, 2026. The new film stars Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon and Rashmika Mandanna and has brought fresh attention to the original movie.
At the same time, an interesting fact about the first Cocktail has surprised many fans. Actor Saif Ali Khan recently revealed that he was not the first choice for the lead role in the film.
According to Saif, the makers had first offered the role to Ranbir Kapoor and Imran Khan. But both actors turned it down.
Only after that did Saif come on board.
Saif shared this in an interview with Variety India. He said the makers already had Deepika Padukone and Diana Penty in the cast but were struggling to find the right hero for the film.
He explained that the female character Veronica had a very strong and exciting role, which may have made some actors unsure about taking the male lead.
Saif joked that everyone should be thankful he agreed to do it because he had a great time working on the film.
His comments have now gone viral, and many fans are wondering how different the film would have looked if Ranbir had accepted it.
At the time, Ranbir was already a rising star in Bollywood. He had delivered several successful films and was becoming one of the biggest names in the industry.
Many fans believe his pairing with Deepika would have looked very different on screen.
