The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced strict security arrangements for the NEET UG 2026 re-examination, which will be held on June 21. The agency says the new steps are aimed at making the exam fair, safe, and transparent for all students.
This re-exam is very important because lakhs of students across India are preparing for it. NEET is the main entrance exam for medical courses like MBBS and BDS. Because of its importance, even small mistakes or cheating can affect many students.
To avoid any problems, the NTA has now made several major changes. These include Aadhaar biometric checks, CCTV surveillance, GPS tracking of question papers, and the deployment of thousands of officials.
The agency says these measures will help prevent cheating, identity fraud, and paper leaks.
For this re-exam, NTA has deployed a huge team of supervisors. A total of 674 city coordinators have been appointed to monitor exam work in different cities. Along with them, 6,669 observers will keep watch at exam centres.
These observers will work independently and make sure all rules are followed properly.
Apart from them, each exam centre will have centre superintendents and invigilators. Their job is to manage the exam process inside the centre and make sure students follow all guidelines.
The NTA says this large number of officials will help create a smooth and safe exam environment.
This time, the NTA has introduced a strong multi-layer security system to protect the exam at every stage.
One of the biggest steps is the secure transport of question papers. The exam papers will be moved in sealed packets through a strict chain-of-custody system. This means every movement of the papers will be tracked carefully.
To make this even stronger, the NTA will use GPS-enabled vehicles for carrying question papers. These vehicles will be monitored live so that officials can know their exact location at all times.
Police escorts will also travel with these vehicles to ensure safety.
This step is important because question paper leaks have been a big concern in competitive exams. By using GPS and police security, the NTA wants to remove any chance of tampering.
Another major security step is CCTV monitoring. Every exam centre will be under camera surveillance. These cameras will record all activities during the exam.
The live footage will be connected to central control rooms. This will allow officials to watch the exam in real time and act quickly if they notice anything unusual.
The NTA believes this system will make the entire process more transparent.
The NTA has also made Aadhaar-based biometric verification mandatory for students. This means every candidate will have to verify their identity through Aadhaar before entering the exam hall.
This step is mainly to stop impersonation, where someone else appears in the exam instead of the real candidate.
Officials say biometric verification will make it much harder for anyone to cheat using fake identity documents.
Along with Aadhaar checks, all students will also go through frisking before entry. High-sensitivity metal detectors will be used to check for banned items like mobile phones, Bluetooth devices, and hidden electronic gadgets.
Extra staff and better screening systems have been arranged to make the process faster and smoother.
The NTA has advised students to reach their exam centres early to avoid delays because these checks may take time.
The agency has also asked students to carry valid ID proofs and follow all exam rules carefully.
The district administration and local police have also been included in the security plan. Their role will be to support the safe movement of exam materials and maintain law and order near exam centres.
This coordination between NTA, police, and district officers is being seen as an important step to make the exam process stronger.
Experts say such strict security is needed because NEET is one of India’s biggest competitive exams. Every year, lakhs of students compete for limited medical seats.
Even one case of cheating can create stress and unfairness for honest students.
The NTA says its main goal is to protect the credibility of the exam and make sure every student gets a fair chance.
For students, this means they should focus only on preparation and avoid carrying anything not allowed inside the exam hall.
Parents have also welcomed these steps, saying stronger checks will help build trust in the exam system.
