KOTA — Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has officially launched a new nationwide student campaign called "Chhatron Ki Goonj" (Echo of Students). The massive rally took place on June 17, 2026, in Kota, Rajasthan, which is famous as India’s biggest coaching hub for competitive exams.

Speaking to a massive crowd of students, Gandhi targeted the government over exam scams, high education costs, and mental pressure on youth. He stated that the rally was not a typical political event but a platform to listen to the struggles of India's younger generation.

"A Rejection System, Not an Education System"

In his speech, Gandhi strongly criticised India's top competitive exams, including NEET, JEE, and UPSC. He argued that the current format acts more like a "rejection system" than an education system because it is designed to eliminate millions of students rather than help them succeed.

He also called the coaching and exam ecosystem an "extortion machine." According to Gandhi, Indian families spend an estimated ₹3.5 lakh crore on private coaching and exam preparations. He pointed out that this massive amount is actually higher than the central government's total budget for public education.

Focus on Student Stress and Paper Leaks

The Congress leader highlighted the serious issue of student mental health, specifically mentioning the rising number of student suicides in coaching cities like Kota. He blamed the extreme pressure of the system for robbing students of their peace of mind.

Gandhi also attacked the administration regarding recent paper leaks and recruitment scams that have ruined the hard work of millions. He demanded strict accountability and called for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

What is Next for the Campaign?

The "Chhatron Ki Goonj" campaign is being led by Congress’s student wing (NSUI) and the Youth Congress. After the big launch in Kota, Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to take this youth movement to other major student cities next, including Allahabad, Patna, and Delhi.
